Blessed with suitable land for bees and honey to be harvested in, Yemen has been long renowned for producing some of the best and rarest honey in the world.
In particular, Sidr honey is a monofloral honey made solely from the nectar of Sidr trees in Yemen, first originating from the country’s Hadramout region, where Apis mellifera jemenitica bees forage for the nectar of the trees in a beautiful countryside full of wildflowers, surrounded by protective mountains.
For over 7,000 years, Sidr honey has been harvested in Yemen using time honoured techniques that have been respected for generations, resulting in a rich and distinctive tasting honey that is unparalleled by any other type in the world.
Sidr honey’s powerful antibacterial properties allow it to treat standard injuries such as paper cuts and skinned knees. In fact, as far back as Ancient Egypt, honey was used to assist the healing process of soldiers’ wounds.
In addition to treating injuries, Sidr honey’s antibacterial properties can also be used as a skin moisturiser, mild exfoliant, natural acne treatment and skin rejuvenator, making it an excellent addition to a natural skin care regimen. The honey also has higher antioxidant properties, which can help combat the signs of ageing.
Other health benefits to Sidr honey also include its high levels of Vitamin C and its ability to help with gastronomical ailments. It likewise has powerful antifungal agents, which could also be used to treat common fungal infections such as athlete’s foot or ringworm.
